Bachelor’s ski area was open until June 1st this year and the snow capped mountain provided the perfect background for photographs. Going for a drive in the mountains, with no specific destination, is a great way to enjoy a relaxing afternoon.

The most popular area by far was Sunriver. Just south of Bend, Sunriver has it’s own airport (IATA: SUO, FAA: S21), that is just a short drive via shuttle or rental car to the main resort. There are three golf courses on the property, and up until last summer, hosted a Nationwide Tour event.

The Deschutes river runs through the resort with rafts, kayaks, inner tubes and boats all floating lazily by under blue skies and the summer sun. Plenty of deer and other wildlife casually graze along the river making great photo-ops.

The city of Bend is also very popular with a beautiful downtown area, incredible restaurants, and dog friendly parks along the same Deschutes River, with more people floating downstream. The Fourth of July fireworks display on Pilot Butte can be seen for miles around.

Bend Airport (ICAO: KBND, FAA LID: KBDN) is just a few miles east of town with easy access to rental cars and taxis. Destinations north of Bend, such as Redmond, Sisters, Prineville, and Madras, as well as airline service, are all available at Redmond Airport (IATA: RDM, ICAO: KRDM).
