Santa Monica, California

Santa Monica is a quintessential California ocean-front city. With miles of sandy beaches, a world famous pier (remember Forrest Gump?) with rides and attractions, including the very recognizable Ferris-wheel, and an open air market right in the center of the city attract people from all over the world. It is where Interstate 10 starts it’s 2,460 mile long journey to Jacksonville, Florida. It is also the start of Pacific Coast Highway (California Route 1) that meanders along the California coast through Malibu and into Ventura County.

Just south of Santa Monica is Marina del Rey, the largest marina in the Los Angeles area with hundreds of sailboats and yachts, not to mention the restaurants and hotels surrounding the basin.

Desert Jet regularly flies into Santa Monica Airport (IATA: SMO, ICAO: KSMO). It was the original home of Douglas Aircraft, where the Douglas DC-3 was built in the 1930s and 1940s. Santa Monica Airport is the closest airport to Brentwood, Beverly Hills, Bel Air, Century City, West Los Angeles, Marina del Rey and Malibu. The shorter runway is best used by light and mid-sized jets. There are very stringent noise restrictions in place, and a curfew is in effect, prohibiting jet operations at night.
